A letter from the President

Hello,
I’m Larry McLellan and I’m President of the Theatre Group New Mexico.

All theater is based on believing in dreams. If only for a couple of hours, we ask you to believe that children really can fly off to a place called Never Never Land. We ask you to believe that a couple by the name of Romeo and Juliet really do die for love – night after night after night.

Well, we believe that there is room in Silver City for a community theater. And we believe that a true community theater needs to be about the community and open to as much of our community as wants to become involved. A true community theater means you, me, and our neighbors are up on stage showing the world what we can do. It means you and me sewing costumes or building sets, or helping with mailings. Whatever our interest, there is a big or a small job that needs to be done in a community theater. And, a true community theater means involving our kids so that they can show us what they can do and so they can show themselves what they can do. And, you know, it may be that they just might like doing this and that they find they have a gift for it and will one day make it their life. And, when one day you see some of them on television, you can say that you helped that guy get started.

And, a true community theater is one that is supported by the community. It is our fondest dream that admission to our events remain free of charge so that any of our neighbors can come if they want to. But, all of this costs money. To make this dream a reality will require support. We will need the support of the business community who is so generous to so many causes. But, in addition to our businesses, you and I need to support this exciting adventure. We need to give what we can so that we can pay the royalties for the shows you want to see and to pay the rent and the props and costumes and all of the things that, put together, result in a Broadway Show. We need to take your pledge and my pledge and put them together with our neighbors pledge and together we can do it. And those of us that can do so need to give more than our fair share so that those of us who can’t can still come and experience the magic that is live theater.

Please, won’t you help make this dream a reality by sending your pledge today?

Thank you,

Larry McLellan
